A new television series titled The Horror, produced by Ridley Scott and shot on the Croatian island of Pag in April 2017, will premiere on the American AMC cable network on March 29, the Croatian Audio Visual Centre (HAVC) said on Wednesday.

The ten-episode series, inspired by a true story and based on the eponymous novel by Dan Simmons, deals with Royal Navy ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror which disappeared in 1845 on an expedition to find the Arctic Northwest Passage

In conditions of fierce winter and ice, the abandoned ship crew try to survive despite limited sources of food, water and weapons, the fear of the unknown, and lack of faith.

The actual expedition ended with more than 120 crew members gone missing, and the circumstances of their disapp earance were never fully determined. Almost 175 years later the expedition’s ships were found accidentally by Arctic research groups in 2014. The filming of the series involved 208 Croatian film workers, including 57 extras, and lasted April 3-30, 2017.

The series features Jared Harris as Captain Francis Cozier, Tobias Menzies as Captain James Fitzjames, and Ciaran Hinds as Sir John Franklin. Executive producers are Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh, with Croatian-based Embassy Films as the local production services provider.
