Finnish President Sauli Niinisto opened Finland’s honorary consular office in the Adriatic city of Split on Wednesday.
The President Niinisto is on a two-day visit to Croatia on invitation by the Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
At the opening ceremony, President Niinisto said the ties between Croatia and Finland were long-standing, adding that both countries want to continue to foster their good relations, as well as expand their economic cooperation.
“One example of success is Marinetek, the Finnish producer of marinas and floating solutions. Recently, Port Hercule in Monaco ordered a super yacht pontoon from the Finnish company, made in a Marinetek facility in Šibenik”, said Risto Piiponen, Finland’s Ambassador to Croatia, who was also present at the ceremony.
The Finnish president said he was confident the Split consulate would help expand and deepen the exchange between the two countries on the official level, because the primary task of Finnish consuls around the world is providing support to Finnish companies in their endeavours to find business opportunities abroad.
