As of Thursday, three US Navy ships are undergoing maintenance repairs at the Viktor Lenac shipyard in Rijeka.
On Thursday morning, the flagship of the United States Sixth Fleet, USS Mount Whitney, arrived in the shipyard, carrying some 300 crew members. This is the fifth time that USS Mount Whitney visited the Viktor Lenac shipyard since it intensified its cooperation programme with the US Navy. The extensive repair-work that the shipyard had done on the US flagship is one of the most important projects in its history.
After two modernisation projects worth millions of dollars, the USS Mount Whitney came to the shipyard to undergo regular maintenance, and will stay in Rijeka for about a month. Two other American logistics ships, the USNS Trenton and USNS Carson City, have been at the shipyard for a while.
According to Novi List, USS Trenton should leave Rijeka next week.
Further proof of a successful cooperation between “Viktor Lenac” and the United States is the fact that more work was done on these ships than was originally arranged.
