The European Commission (EC) concluded that there are no outstanding legal issues with this Cohesion Policy project as far as the internal Commission and EU procedures are concerned, said EC's Spokesperson for the Regional Policy Johannes Bahrke, in answer to the question about the Peljesac Bridge construction contract signed on Monday.
“The Commission has carefully analysed the project application received from Croatia on the EU co-financing of the Peljesac Bridge and has checked that all requirements and procedural steps under the Cohesion Policy regulation had been complied with before adopting it,” Bahrke told N1.
The contract to build the Peljesac Bridge was formally signed on Monday in Dubrovnik by the state-owned road management company, Hrvatske Ceste (HC), and the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) consortium.
The news about the signing of the contract triggered a series of reactions in Bosnia.
Speaking for N1, the Bosniak member of the Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Bakir Izetbegovic, announced “a marathon process”, stressing that “we would like to solve it with Croatia on the grounds of good neighbourly relations”. Izetbegovic said he would address the representatives of Croatia on this matter.
The Chairman of Bosnia’s Council of ministers, Denis Zvizdic, announced a visit to Croatia, where he will discuss the open issues of the two countries with the Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic.
