A journalist with Podgorica daily newspaper Vijesti was wounded by a gunman in the Montenegrin capital on Tuesday evening.

 Journalist Olivera Lakic was shot in the leg in front of the building where she lives, Vijesti Director Zeljko Ivanovic told N1, adding that a single shot was fired. “This was a classic ambush,” he said.

Ivanovic said this was not the first time Lakic was attacked. She was assaulted at the same place several years ago after receiving threats following her reports on the illegal production of cigarettes.

Vijesti editor in chief Mihailo Jovic said the police hadn’t solved any of the attacks on Lakic. “Many of the stories she wrote about crime have not been investigated,” he said. The Police Chief, Vesko Damjanovic, said the police would do everything to find the attackers and bring them to justice.

Eyewitnesses said that a man came up to her, shot her in the leg and fled with two other men. Doctors confirmed that her life is not in danger. Journalists from other Montenegrin media gathered in front of the hospital she was taken to, Vijesti reported on its website.
