A suspected member of the Dark Overlord hacker group has been arrested in Belgrade, Serbian police said on Wednesday.

The Criminal Police Department (UKP) coordinated with the Special Prosecution for High-Tech Crime to arrest a suspect, S.S. (38), as part of an international operation launched by the FBI, the press release said.

The operation was launched to find and arrest a number of members of the Dark Overlord group who are suspected of having accessed the computers and data of at least 50 US citizens, stealing their personal information and data on ownership, intellectual property and medical information. The group also blackmailed some victims demanding payments in bitcoin, the press release said, and added that the group received more than $275,000 from their victims.

The police said the arrested man would be charged with several counts of high-tech crime and extortion.
