The New York residence of the former Yugoslavia's ambassador to the United Nations has been sold for US $12.1 million and of that amount, Croatia is entitled to 2.075 million, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry said on Saturday.
The sale of four other formerly jointly owned properties – the permanent mission of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) at the United Nations in New York, the embassies in Bonn and Bern, and the embassy/residence in Tokyo – is underway.
The Croatian ministry said the contract on the joint sale of the New York residence of the former Yugoslav ambassador to the UN, which had been empty since 1992, was signed by representatives of five successor countries on May 31.
The Serbian Foreign Ministry has said that Belgrade is entitled to US $3.48 million of the sale price.
Information on the amounts that other former Yugoslav republics are entitled to is not available.
The sale of the New York apartment is part of an agreement reached by the Joint Committee for Succession to the former SFRY, which defined the methodology for the sale of five properties that housed diplomatic/consular missions of the former federation.
