Traffic stopped for ten minutes on Friday at 5 pm local time on Croatian roads, as drivers stopped their cars in protest against high gas prices.

A civil initiative against the rise of gas prices has been calling on the people to stop their cars for ten minutes on Friday at 5 pm. In Zagreb, the initiative was partially successful.

Many drivers near the Zagreb’s Square of the Victims of Fascism responded to the initiative, N1 reporter at the scene said.

Damir Rogina, a member of the initiative, said that another, similar action would be organised sometime in the next week.

“A lot of people are responding, the traffic stopped,” Rogina said.

When asked what gas price would be acceptable, he said: “The price can be lowered to below 9 kuna (€1.2) per litre.”

“It’s ten past 5 o’clock, it’s time to move our cars, and then we’ll plan something more substantial,” Rogina concluded.

Similar protests have been held recently in neighbouring countries.
