Workers employed at the national flag carrier Croatia Airlines announced today that they would go on strike on Monday, July 9. Adding that the last round of talks with the company's management had fallen through on June 11, they said that they would cease all operations until the management agrees to their new collective agreement.
Employees at the state-owned company’s headquarters in Buzin outside Zagreb, and at all of the company’s sales agents shops will also go on strike, and the strike is set to begin at 6 am. Company’s employees are demanding an increase in salaries, longer-term collective agreements, and the reduction in overtime hours assigned to employees.
After last month’s negotiations with the company’s unions fell through, the management also issued a press release, detailing the offer that was rejected.
“The offer was identical to what had been offered in December 2017, which includes retaining all the rights from the former collective agreement, 2.5 percent salary increase, a 1,000 kuna (€135) vacation allowance, the expiration date in late 2019, as well as the possibility of signing the new agreement in late 2018 after the peak summer tourist season,” the company’s management said.
It remains to be seen how the strike in the middle of the tourist season would affect Croatia’s airports and company revenues.
