In the town of Svetvincenat, at the heart of Istria, the mediaeval era is brought to life in Mediaeval Nights, a series of interactive living history shows held at the 15th century Morosini-Grimani castle.
The Nights are organised by the Historical association Castle of Svetvincenat, which, established in 2013, aims to revive Mediaeval and Renaissance history through organising knight joustings, archery demonstrations, and other mediaeval games.
Visitors are welcomed in front of the castle by knights and a court jester, where they listen to stories and myths about the fortress before entering the courtyard to witness the knights jousting and showing off their skills.
Local vendors set up stalls to showcase and sell their handicrafts, as well as traditional organic products. Visitors can see an exhibition of mediaeval weapons, take photos with knights, or stroll through the castle promenade.
As the castle was the sight of witch burnings in the 17th century, witch trials are also staged during the evenings.
A fire show, a staged siege of the castle with a catapult show, guild fighting, and more, can be seen at these exciting shows, taking place on selected dates during summer months.
More information on the events, ticket sales and dates, can be found on the association’s website.
