Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra to perform at Summer Festival

Dubrovačke ljetne igre

The music programme of this year’s Dubrovnik Summer Festival will continue on Saturday, August 11, at 21.30, with a concert by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra conducted by the Hungarian conductor Tibor Bogányi, and young Croatian violinist Marin Maras.

Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, active since 1924, traditionally performs at the Dubrovnik Summer festival, joined by eminent foreign and local soloists and conductors. This year, the orchestra will be conducted by the esteemed Hungarian conductor Tibor Bogányi.

“It is a privilege to conduct the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The programme we have put together is a diverse combination of masterpieces,” Bogányi said.

The concert will be opened by Dances of Galanta, one of the best known works by the Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, by the American composer Samuel Barber, opens with relaxed themes perfect for a summer evening, while Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 in D Major, known as Reformation, is a masterpiece in four movements, Bogány said of the programme.

Young violinist Marin Maras, from Dubrovnik, is one of the leading young Croatian musicians. He has been a member of the Lichtenstein Symphony Orchestra since 2012.
