Ikea, the world’s largest furniture retailer, on August 21st marks the fourth anniversary of opening a store in the Croatian capital Zagreb.

Ikea Zagreb was chosen as best employer in the very first year since its opening in a survey conducted by the independent portal MojPosao, and was in top three best employers in the country in 2016 and 2017.

In July 2017, a delivery centre was opened in the port city of Rijeka, and another in the southern city of Split in September that same year. A third delivery centre was opened in June this year in the eastern city of Osijek.

In cooperation with UNICEF, the store donated €18,000 for the first human milk bank in Croatia, and is actively implementing the Diversity and Inclusion programme, aimed at promoting equality.

“In implementing the programme, Ikea is strongly focused on several areas, including equality, which for the company is a basic human right. Therefore, more than a half of managers in Ikea Croatia are female. In order to additionally emphasise the importance of equality in the workplace, Ikea, to mark the International Women’s Day, had this year organised a campaign under the name of Equality is Better for All,” Ikea said in a press release.

The company will continue, together with partners, to contribute to gender equality in Croatia in the years to come, they said.

Among the bestselling products in Croatia were LED light bulbs, with over 1,151,000 sold, saving the people in Croatia nearly 300 million kuna (€40.4), or 660 million kWh over four years. By selling these lightbulbs, the company aims to encourage people to opt for more sustainable living.

More than 7 million customers visited the store in Zagreb in the four years since its opening, and the Ikea loyalty programme now counts more than 260,000 members.
