The striking workers of the Pula-based Uljanik shipyard went on a march through the city on Thursday morning, with the company's all three unions supporting the move.
After gathering at the shipyard, at 9 a.m. the workers on strike set out on a march through the city streets. Plans for the march were previously reported to the police.
The leaders of the shipyard’s unions on Thursday morning addressed the press, joining in the workers’ demand that the company management should resign.
“Since the demand for the Uljanik Group management to resign cannot be considered a legally valid reason for a strike, the striking committee demands the payment of wages for July, while the unions active in the Uljanik Group demand the management to step down as a morally responsible act, given the situation the shipyard’s workers have found themselves in, without any guilt on their part,” said the unions, noting that if their demand was not met, they would ask the shipyard’s board to replace the company’s management.
Workers of the Uljanik Group, which includes the Pula-based Uljanik shipyard and the Rijeka-based “3. maj” shipyard, on Wednesday started a strike over late wages.
