Industrial production in the European Union in August recovered month-on-month, as well as in Croatia. However, while the EU saw a year-on-year increase in industrial output, in Croatia industrial production declined over the same period, according to the latest figures from the EU's statistics bureau, Eurostat.
In August 2018 the seasonally adjusted industrial output in the EU inched up by 0.8 percent compared to July, when according to revised figures it dropped by 0.6 percent month-on-month.
The production of capital goods posted the largest increase, by 1.2 percent, while the production of intermediary goods grew the least, by a mere 0.3 percent.
Industrial output grew in August in the euro zone as well, by 1.0 percent from July, when according to revised data it dropped by 0.7 percent month-on-month.
By country, Malta recorded the highest monthly increase n August, of 9.9 percent, followed by Ireland, with an increase of 8 percent, and Hungary, with an increase of 3.8 percent.
Croatia’s industrial output in August rose by 0.3 percent from July, when it sank by 3.7 percent month-on-month.
Denmark was the only EU country to see a monthly drop in industrial output in August, of 4.5 percent.
In year-on-year terms, industrial output in the EU in August was up 1.2 percent, after it grew 1.0 percent in July, according to revised figures.
In the euro zone, industrial production rose by 0.9 percent from August 2017, while in July this year it inched up 0.3 percent year-on-year.
Ireland saw the highest annual increase in industrial output, of 15.1 percent, followed by Slovenia, with 7 percent, and Latvia, with 6.4 percent.
In Croatia, industrial production dropped by 1.1 percent year-on-year, after going down in July by 0.8 percent.
Over the last 12 months, industrial output declined the most in Denmark, by 3.9 percent. Denmark was followed by Portugal, with a drop of 3.3 percent, and Luxembourg, with a 2.6% percent decrease.
