Exhibition titled "Croatie. Pleine de couleurs (Croatia, Full of Colours)" opened at the Carrousel du Louvre underground shopping mall in Paris' 1st arrondissement on Tuesday, which aims to promote Croatia as a holiday destination.

On display are 26 large-format photographs taken by Croatian photographer, traveller and adventurist Davor Rostuhar, showing aerial photos from all regions of Croatia, their nature, traditions, customs, and people, as they appear through all four seasons of the year.

The photographs were made as part of his larger project titled Croatia From Above which was published by National Geographic as its first photography monograph book from Croatia.

The exhibition will be on public display until November 20, with organisers expecting several million people to see it, as the venue itself is frequented by more than three million shoppers and visitors every year.

Opening the exhibition on Tuesday evening, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said he was pleased that Croatia was being presented so close to the famous glass pyramid of the Louvre Museum.

“This is an excellent opportunity to promote Croatia’s cultural heritage and its regions,” Plenkovic said, adding that the tourist industry accounts for 20 percent of the Croatia’s GDP.

Mayor of the 1st Arrondissement, Jean-François Legaret, said that Croatia is full of cultural values, and said he wished that communication and cooperation between the two countries is strenghtened.

“We are proud that we can promote Croatia in the heart of Paris, because France is one of the most important markets for Croatian tourism,” the director of the Croatian national tourist board, Kristjan Stanicic, said.

Stanicic added that this year Croatia had seen an 8 percent increase in bed nights by French tourists, and that apart from visiting established tourist sports like the cities of Dubrovnik and Split, French tourists are increasingly coming to the capital Zagreb, and the regions of Istria, Kvarner and Slavonia.
