The integration of the Western Balkans is one of the main priorities of the EU foreign policy, the bloc's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Wednesday at the European Parliament.

“Our common objective is to have all Balkan countries join the European Union. We have two urgent tasks. The first one is to work tirelessly with our friends in Belgrade and Pristina, sign an agreement with them and normalise relations. We also have to launch negotiations with Skopje and Tirana,” Mogherini said presenting the report on Europe’s foreign policy which the European Parliament adopted on Wednesday.

MEPs on Wednesday adopted two resolutions on the common foreign, security and defence policy, calling for the establishment of an EU Security Council, and also replacing the unanimity requirement with qualified majority voting in the Council on matters relating to the foreign and security policy issues.

They also supported, with a majority vote, yearly reports on the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) by the chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, MEP David McCallister, as well as the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) presented by vice-chair of the committee, MEP Ioan Mircea Pascua.

A report on military mobility was also adopted. Dubbed “Military Schengen” after the EU’s passport-free travel area, it refers to an ongoing project to remove administrative and infrastructure obstacles to enable fast movement of military troops and equipment on EU territory.
