Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic met with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Tuesday, calling once again on the EC to allow an exception in its state aid rules to make it possible for Croatia to grant the eastern city of Vukovar a special status so that the war-ravaged city could get more state aid.
“I called once again for an exception that would make it possible for Croatia to adopt a law on state aid for Vukovar, granting the city a special status and state aid, considering the tragedy and suffering that happened there,” Plenkovic said after talks with Juncker.
By meeting with Juncker, Plenkovic ended his two-day visit to Brussels during which he also met with European Council President Donald Tusk and held a speech on the EU’s future priorities.
Plenkovic said that he and Juncker also discussed preparations for an extraordinary summit of leaders of 27 EU member-states, to be held in the Romanian city of Sibiu on Thursday, as well as Croatia’s preparations for accession to the Schengen area and the euro area and the situation in its shipbuilding sector.
