The 25th Dubrovnik Economic Conference, the annual international gathering of about 90 scientists and representatives of numerous world financial institutions, is taking place this weekend, organised by the Croatian National Bank (HNB).

“In these 25 years, the biggest names in economic theory and the field of economic policies have participated in the conference. In that time, we have covered all the current topics in Croatia, Europe and the world. I hope we will continue to do that over the next 25 years too,” HNB governor Boris Vujcic said at the opening on Saturday.

This year the conference will focus on trade, trade wars and the imposition of tariffs, the negative impact of economic and political populism on world economies, and the future of world banking regarding regulation, he added.

Vujcic will moderate a panel on the future of European and world banking to be attended by Central Bank of Iceland governor Mar Gudmundsson, Pentti Hakkarainen of the European Central Bank, former Estonian Central Bank governor Ardo Hansson, and Mario Nava of the European Commission.

The conference is attended by representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Bank for International Settlements, among others.
