The Deutsche Welle (DW) said on Friday the meeting in Paris of the Western Balkans leaders with the Kosovo issue on agenda had been postponed, the Beta news agency reported.

The news broke out after both Belgrade and Pristina said the summit called by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel for July 1, following the failure of the meeting in Berlin, would not happen.

“It is correct that the meeting announced for July 1 is postponed,” the German Government PR service told DW.
It added Germany and France would remain in close contact with Belgrade and Pristina.

Belgrade and Pristina cemented their positions, and no compromise was made by either side. Kosovo wants Serbia’s recognition of its independence as a condition for negotiation on other issues, while Serbia doesn’t want to resume any talks before Pristina revokes the decision on 100 percent import duties on goods from Serbia and Bosnia introduced last November.

Kosovo resists the pressure from both the US and the European Union to suspend or lift taxes, while the EU agrees with Belgrade that is a pre-condition for further negotiations.
