The EU28 unemployment rate in May 2019 slipped to its lowest level in 19 years since Eurostat started releasing its monthly reports, while in Croatia it decreased mildly, according to a Eurostat report released on Monday.
According to seasonally adjusted data, unemployment in the EU in May was 6.3%, its lowest ever recorded level.
In April it was 6.4% while in May 2018 unemployment was 6.9%, according to the latest report.
Unemployment in the eurozone slipped by 0.1 percentage points in relation to April, to 7.5%, its lowest level since July 2008.
Eurostat says that 15.653 million EU citizens were unemployed in May 2019, including 12.348 million in the eurozone.
Compared with April 2019, the number of persons unemployed in the EU decreased by 71,000 and by 1.2777 million compared with April 2018.
In Croatia, the unemployment rate in May 2019 was 7%, down 0.1 percentage points on the month. In May 2019, 126,000 Croatians were out of work, down 28,000 on the year.
The highest unemployment rates in the EU were observed in Greece (18.1%), Spain (13.6%) and Italy (9.9%).
