Croatia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Marija Pejcinovic Buric, attended a ministerial meeting of Berlin Process member states in the Polish city of Poznan on Thursday, which focused on the future of Europe and the integration of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs said.
The meeting was hosted by Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz. The foreign ministers discussed the future of Europe and the Berlin Process as well as regional cooperation as the basis of the social and economic integration of the Western Balkans region.
Pejcinovic Buric highlighted the importance of further strengthening all aspects of connectivity, speeding up reforms, promoting good neighbourly relations and focusing attention on young people.
The centrepiece of the summit will be a meeting prime ministers on Friday It will be hosted by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and among those attending will be Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
The aim of the Berlin Process is to maintain the focus on EU enlargement to include the Western Balkans. It was launched at Germany’s initiative at a conference of Western Balkan countries in 2014.
The Berlin Process comprises the six Balkan countries aspiring to EU membership – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, and includes several EU member states. Bulgaria and North Macedonia will assume the co-presidency of the initiative from Poland.
