Early elections will be held in Kosovo on September 8, the KoSSev news portal said on Monday quoting sources in the Kosovo Presidency.
Unnamed presidency sources told the Kosovo state TV (RTK) that President Hashim Thaci decided to call the election for early September, following the resignation of Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.
Haradinaj resigned last Friday after being summoned as a suspect by The Hague-based Special Chamber for war crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo, in which he served as commander before becoming active in politics.
He announced he would run in the next election, but added he decided to resign because remaining Prime Minister could potentially cause damage to Kosovo.
