Open-air celebrations on New Year's Eve were traditionally organised in the main squares of Zagreb and other major cities throughout Croatia, with revellers enjoying entertainment programmes and firework displays at the start of 2020.
Local pop and rock groups performed concerts in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in Zagreb’s main square and in other squares in the capital city.
Thousands of people flocked to the centres of Croatian coastal cities: Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik for the New Year outdoor parties.
The towns in the interior also organised outdoor New Year celebrations. Local cuisine, mulled wine and other beverages were offered to revellers welcoming in the New Year.
No major incidents were reported.
A traditional New Year’s Eve marathon race was organised in the northern city of Varazdin, with over 500 participants taking part in the event.
Farewell parties for the outgoing year were held at noon throughout Croatia.
Noon parties were also organised for children in many towns in the country on Tuesday.
