The recent triple murder in the streets of Split has affected the perception of security in that Croatian coastal city, however, Split is neither less nor more secure than the Croatian average, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said on Saturday.

All the relevant indicators show that the law enforcement authorities in Split achieve results in the fight against crime and drug abuse, Bozinovic said after he held talks with the local police officials in Split following last weekend’s triple murder of drug dealers in Split perpetrated by the brother of a drug addict.

Minister Bozinovic also praised the local police for their prompt reaction during that tragedy. They managed to identify the perpetrator within three hours after the murders and pressed criminal charges against him, he recalled.

Considering drug abuse, last year the police in Split reported 1,800 seizures of illegal drugs and filed 180 reporters against suspects, he said.

Asked by the press about a Facebook group that supports the perpetrator, Minister Bozinovic said that it was not good to organise rallies of support in such cases.

He said that statistics about crime rates in Europe and globally show that Croatia is a much safer country than many other countries in the world.
