A meeting of the heads of state of the Brdo-Brijuni initiative, which was to have been held on Monday in Brdo Pri Kranju, Slovenia, has been cancelled due to epidemiological reasons, Slovenian authorities confirmed on Friday.

A press release from President Borut Pahor’s office said that the meeting has been cancelled due to epidemiological reasons and that participants have been informed about it.

“President Pahor, as the host of the scheduled meeting, cannot guarantee conditions for the meeting to be held without the risk of the (novel coronavirus) disease being transmitted, despite numerous foreseen measures,” the press release said, adding that Pahor hopes once epidemiological circumstances allow, the meeting will be held in the near future.

There is no indication of when the summit, which was to have marked the 10th anniversary of the Brdo-Brijuni initiative, launched by Slovenia and Croatia, might be held.

Pahor was to have hosted the presidents of Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo to discuss current affairs in the region, the European prospects of Western Balkan countries and regional policies. Several bilateral encounters were also planned.
