A migrant has been killed in a fight that broke out between two groups of migrants in Ilidza near Sarajevo, local police confirmed late on Monday hours after the authorities announced the closure of two migrant centres outside the northwestern town of Bihac.
The incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday. One of the migrants suffered a stab wound and died soon after, Sarajevo Canton police said in a statement, adding that an investigation is underway.
Police reported Tuesday morning that two migrants suspected of the murder have been arrested.
The authorities in the northwestern Una-Sana Canton have called for the closure of two migrant centres to ease the pressure from migrants, whose number has surpassed 10,000. They cited frequent fights between migrants and assaults on the local population.
According to Bosnian media, following a meeting with Security Minister Selmo Cikotic, the local authorities were promised that two collective centres would be closed down and the migrants relocated to other areas in the country.
