Every ninth citizen of Serbia has a membership card of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which means the party, which now has about 750,000 members, might soon surpass the League of Communists of Yugoslavia during its rule when it numbered about 900,000 people, Nova.rs reported.
Considering that Serbia has approximately 6.9 million inhabitants and the SNS about 750,000 members, it can be concluded that every ninth citizen of the country is a member of the ruling party, according to Nova.rs.
For the sake of comparison, during the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia – a one-party state with a total population of 23.3 million – the number of members of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia was around 900,000, so every 25th citizen was a member of the party.
