The German government on Wednesday revoked the status of a risk area for the Croatian coastal counties: Zadar and Sibenik-Knin, as well as for Freiburg (Friborg) in Switzerland, the dpa news agency reported.

On the other hand, “Germany declared regions in 11 European countries to be areas where there was an elevated risk of exposure to the novel coronavirus, while existing warnings about parts of Belgium were extended to cover the entire country.”

The Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases, the public health institute in Germany, also included Britain in its health warnings for the first time in the pandemic.

For the first time, areas in the Baltic countries of Lithuania and Estonia were also named. Regions in Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania were also added.

Such declarations, which result when the prevalence of coronavirus infections exceeds 50 per 100,000 population over a week, are typically followed by the Foreign Ministry issuing a travel warning.

With the new decisions of Berlin’s federal government, 17 out of 27 EU countries are now at least partially deemed coronavirus risk areas, including all of Belgium, Spain, the Czech Republic and Luxembourg.
