A record high 387 new cases of the coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Slovenia in the past 24 hours, after 3,665 tests were done, the country's government said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, close to 4,000 tests and 356 new infections were reported.

Since Slovenia has 116 infections per 100,000 population, Germany has declared four more Slovenian regions as epidemiologically risky, demanding from persons arriving from a larger part of the country a negative Covid-19 test.

Since the number of hospitalised patients has increased significantly, the government has ordered the opening of new Covid-19 wards in hospitals and so-called red areas in homes for elderly people.

A member of the government’s expert team has said that in two weeks’ time it would be known if the new restrictions had been effective.
