Consumer prices in Croatia in September 2020 were equal to those in the same month of 2019 , breaking a five-month decline, the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS) reported on Friday.
Year on year, retail prices fell by 0.1% in August, 0.3% in July, 0.2% in June, 0.6% in May and 0.2% in April, which was their first decline on an annual level since the end of 2016.
The annual stagnation in consumer prices was primarily driven by an increase in prices of alcohol and tobacco products, accounting for 5.2% of the consumer shopping basket, which recorded an overall increase of 5%. This was followed by recreation and culture, which accounts for 5.5% of the basket, with prices increasing by 1.9%. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, which account for the greatest portion of the consumer basket, increased by 1.1% on the year.
