Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica said on Tuesday that cooperation between Serbia and Croatia regarding war crimes should be better, underlining that intensive meetings are being held on the issue of compensation for Croatian POWs held in Serbian concentration camps.

“I am confident that we will find the best solution to help Croatian POWs get financial compensation in a legal way so that justice can be served in that regard too,” said Malenica.

He underlined that material and staff capacities were being enhanced in all institutions participating in this process.

The county courts in Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Osijek have jurisdiction to try war crimes. A total of 269 proceedings have been initiated in that regard, of which 165 have been closed and 94 are ongoing. With regard to the Vukovar area, Osijek County Court has launched 65 proceedings, 35 have been closed and 25 are ongoing.
