The body of the late head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), Patriarch Irinej, was laid to rest at the Temple of Saint Sava on Sunday.

The SPC Patriarch died due to COVID-19-related complications at a military hospital in Belgrade early on Friday.

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Bosnia, Hristozom, served the liturgy.

Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Serb member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik, have arrived at the ceremony and are expected to give speeches.

Russian Orthodox Church Bishop, Hilarion Alfeyev, also attended the liturgy.

According to reports, the ceremony is taking place in line with anti-epidemic measures and recommendations by health authorities, with citizens entering the Temple and, one by one, paying their respects to the religious leader and then leaving the building immediately.
