Parliament on Wednesday debated a motion for a vote of no confidence in Economy and Sustainable Energy Minister Tomislav Coric, with the opposition and ruling majority accusing each other of various scandals.

Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Pedja Grbin listed seven ministers in PM Andrej Plenkovic’s governments who had to step down due to what he called illegal dealings.

He said that Coric had to go because he had caused damage to Croatia’s interests, claiming that the ruling majority did not care about public interest but its own.

Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic (HDZ) responded by saying that none of the ministers he was referring to had been found to have done anything illegal.

MP Domagoj Hajdukovic (SDP) claimed that theft was HDZ’s “modus operandi.”

Former HDZ minister Marko Pavic said that Coric had just implemented agreements he had inherited from the previous, SDP-led government.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner (HDZ) recalled that it was the Social Democratic Party (SDP) that had sold INA, to which MP Mirela Ahmetovic (SDP) responded by saying that the SDP-led government sold 25% of INA without any management rights while the government of (former HDZ leader) Ivo Sanader sold everything it could at a cheap price through a deal with MOL CEO Zsolt Hernadi.

MP Arsen Bauk (SDP) remarked that HDZ lawmakers spoke more about what the SDP had done instead of actually defending Coric, to which Bridge MP Nikola Grmoja wondered if there was anyone who had anything good to say in his defence.

MP Miro Bulj (Bridge) said that Minister Coric had violated the law by appointing Nella Slavica to head the Krka national park even though another candidate had much better qualifications.
