The coronavirus pandemic in Croatia has led to a 'serious problem' with the public trust in goverment institutions, a survey published by the Jutarnji List daily on Friday reported.

Only 30 percent of respondents in the survey said they were “satisfied” with the national Covid-19 task force. They reported even lower satisfaction rates with other institutions, with the parliament and the government ranked dead bottom – at only 12 percent and 20 percent respectively.

The survey was conducted in August and September of this year on a sample of 1,060 people. Backed by the publicly funded Croatian Science Foundation (HZZ), the survey was done by a team of psychologists, sociologists, and political scientists as part of a research project on the social impact of the coronavirus crisis in Croatia.

A rather interesting findingm Jutarnji List said, is that roughly the same percentage of respondents said that they do not worry at all (15.3 percent) or worry very much (14.1 percent) about getting infected with the coronavirus.

Two thirds of respondents said that their current standard of living is unchanged compared to the time before pandemic, and people with lower income tend to worry about the consequences of the pandemic the most.

The unusual circumstances of living through a pandemic were reportedly seen as “moderately stressful”, and the most stressful factor named by respondents was the uncertainty over how long the pandemic might last, Jutarnji List said.
