Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic on Sunday resolutely dismissed the proposal by the Serb member of the Bosnian Presidency, Milorad Dodik, for the presidents of Croatia, Serbia and Turkey to join in negotiations on how to resolve internal issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I don’t see how the two countries that have carried out an act of aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina could today have greater international credibility than the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, the EU, UN or Russia for that matter, which witnessed the signing of the Dayton Agreement,” Croatian state agency Hina reported that Komsic had said in response to Dodik’s proposal.

Komsic was probably referring to Serbia and Croatia.

Earlier on Sunday, Dodik called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to act as mediators in negotiations aimed at “reaching an agreement on the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

He explained his proposal by saying that the Dayton Agreement, which put an end to the war in the country in 1995, was “practically dead” and that a new agreement was necessary.

Dodik said that he did not trust international mediators other than Erdogan and Vucic, and that he would also like Milanovic to join them as a mediator.

In a comment on the proposal, Komsic said that Dodik was being inconsistent because he kept saying that he did not want foreigners involved in political processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina yet was now saying that he actually did not like some of them and wanted to pick those he preferred, Hina said.

“The only place where the Dayton Agreement can be changed is the Bosnian Parliament, and its amendment cannot depend on other countries’ views,” said Komsic.

Dodik mentioned his proposal also during Erdogan’s visit to Sarajevo on Friday.

The Turkish president did not comment on the proposal, and Dodik repeated it on Sunday during an event in Stricici, in the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska (RS), which was also attended by Serbian Minister of the Interior Aleksandar Vulin, who said that RS was “crucial for the survival of the Serb people” and that Serbia would continue to support it strongly.
