Croatia's Foreign Minister, Gordan Grlic-Radman, called on MPs to support a government-sponsored amendment which would allow the agreement on the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Adriatic to enter into force on 1 February. Pročitaj više

“That way, we will create conditions for the declaration of an Exclusive Economic Zone to which Croatia is fully entitled under international law,” Grlic-Radman told parliament on Thursday.

In December MPs endorsed the proposal to declare an EEZ in the Adriatic Sea, mandating the government to support ‘stronger cooperation’ between Croatia, Italy and Slovenia at a trilateral meeting in January this year. This came after Italian government had announced it would declare its own EEZ in the Adriatic in 2021.

Earlier this month, Croatian government submitted an amendment specifying that the parliament’s earlier resolution would enter into force on 1 February 2021.

The first trilateral meeting of experts is scheduled for 29 January and will be held via video conference, and will prepare the ground for a ministerial meting in March, Grlic-Radman said.
