Starting on Wednesday and for the next two months, Zagreb Airport will be closed during night-time due to maintenance work on its runway.
During the works, the airport will be closed for incoming airplanes between 22:35 and 6:35, except on Mondays and Fridays when the runway will be closed from midnight to 6:35. Because of this, Croatia will be without a single airport capable of receiving flights all night.
According to an order issued by the transport ministry, the only airport required to be open 24 hours a day is Zagreb. However, Transport Minister Oleg Butković said the decision would apply to Split Airport as well, after a Croatia Airlines night flight from Zagreb to Dubrovnik had to be rerouted to Rome due to strong winds in Dubrovnik and understaffing in Zagreb.
Transport minister issues the order twice a year, for the periods from March to October and October to March. This year’s schedule is expected to be issued soon and will likely keep Split Airport open all day and all night, making it the only air transport facility in the country working round the clock, Večernji List daily reported on Tuesday.
