€61.4 million collected in motorway tolls in Q1 2018

Motorways operated by state-owned companies HAC and ARZ recorded more than 10 million vehicles in the first three months of 2018, or 3.5 percent up from the same period the year before. Tolls collected amounted to 455.6 million kuna (€61.4 million) without VAT, or 9.6 percent up from the same period in 2017, HAC said in a statement on Friday.

Tolls collected amounted to 455.6 million kuna (€61.4 million) without VAT, or 9.6 percent up from the same period in 2017, HAC said in a statement on Friday.

The company said that the overall increase in traffic in the first quarter of 2018 was recorded across all motorways and in all categories of vehicles, in spite of severely poor weather conditions which forced some road sections to temporarily close in February.

The highest volume of traffic was recorded on the A3 motorway from Bregana on the Slovenian border to Lipovac on the border with Serbia, spanning more than 300 kilometres through northern Croatia. The A3 had 3.6 million vehicles from January to March travelling the route, or 5.5 percent up from the same period in 2017. In terms of income, A3 also had the highest tolls collected, some 190.8 million kuna, or 13.58 percent up from last year.

“Considering the upcoming tourist season, we expect further increase in revenue and traffic volume,” the company said.
