The signing of agreements for development projects in the port of Rijeka on Thursday marked the beginning of a new investment cycle in the port area. The total value of the projects is €37.6 million.
Port Authority Rijeka and the national railway company, HZ Infrastruktura, signed a €35.5 million agreement with a consortium of Kolektor-Koling and Euro-Asfalt Partneri for the development of a multimodal platform and connection with the Adriatic Gate container terminal.
The project relates to the Susak Brajdica railway line, the shortest transport corridor for the transport of goods from overseas ports into the EU. The work, which will include a reconstruction of the existing tracks and an expansion of the Susak tunnel, is scheduled to start in June 2018, and will be finished in June 2020.
Eighty-five percent of the funding for the projects has been secured from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility, and the rest comes from national sources.
