Speaker of Parliament, Gordan Jandrokovic, signed a declaration of cooperation involving the parliaments of Croatia, Romania and Finland in support of the preparation and fulfilment of the parliamentary dimension of the country's 2020 Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Croatian parliament said in a press release on Monday.

The document was signed in the Estonian capital of Tallin where a two-day conference of Speakers of Parliaments of EU member countries began on Monday, also attended by the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani. The event has been held regularly since 1963.

The Tallinn meeting focuses on the future of the EU, as well as the collective security and defence mechanisms of the bloc.

On the conference’s margins, Jandrokovic signed the declaration with his counterparts from Romania, Liviu Dragnea, and Finland, Paula Risikko. Romania and Finland will hold the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first and the second half of 2019, when Zagreb will assume the office in the first half of 2020.

In his address, Jandrokovic spoke about Croatia’s readiness for stronger EU integration through its efforts to join the Schengen passport-free travel area, and adopt the euro. Croatia had joined the EU in 2013, but is still outside both the Schengen area and the euro zone.
