After “Rest in Peace” and “The Paper”, the Croatian TV series "Guardian of the Castle" was also picked up by foreign tv channels.
The 4-part mini-series was picked up by the Swedish national broadcaster SVT, as well as the prestigious British Channel 4, through which the show will become available on-demand in the United States as well, reports Jutarnji List Daily.
“I believe we have once again confirmed we can make a globally competitive product,” said the head of the national TV broadcaster (HRT), Kazimir Bacic.
“Guardian of the Castle” takes place in the 1980s, and follows the devout Secret Police official, Boris Biscan (Ivo Gregurevic), who is in charge of the so-called “enemy emigration.”
“My intention was to witness the collapse of the intelligence system, and indirectly through that, of communism. The collapse of a system, an empire, or a political order has always been an interesting subject for artists, and I think that this particular part of our history has not been covered as a central topic yet,” said Lukas Nola, the writer and director of the show. He added he was less interested in the politics, and instead wanted to focus on the behaviour of the protagonists when the political system started to fall apart.
The Croatian crime-show “Rest in Peace” (Počivali u miru) was picked up in 2014 by the Walter Presents section of the British Channel 4, specialising in foreign-language drama, which aired in the US as well. The drama “The Paper” (Novine) was sold to the American streaming giant Netflix earlier this year.
