The citizens' initiative “The People decide” on Saturday introduced what questions for a referendum about changes of the Election Law they advocate Croats to be asked.
The first question relates to changes the initiative wants to see in regard to the order of candidates on the list, the number of lawmakers in the parliament and the way people can vote. The changes it suggests would allow voters to decide the order on the candidate list, enable voters to vote electronically or by mail and decrease the number of lawmakers to maximum 120. Currently the allowed number is up to 160.
The second question would ask Croats whether they agree that representatives of minorities should not be able to decide about the country’s budget or the composition of the government.
The main coordinator of the initiative, Zvonimir Troskot, told reporters in Split that those changes would make the election more fair and allow a higher turnout. He said the initiative has to collect 380,000 signatures and that activists will be collecting those over two weeks in May.
