Tobacco businesses in Croatia have ended 2017 with a consolidated net loss of nearly 80 million kuna (€10 million), significantly down from 2016 when their total net profit was 16.7 million (€2.2 million) kuna, the data released by the Financial Agency (Fina) released on Wednesday showed.
In 2017 the three companies making tobacco products employed less than 700 employees, while two other tobacco-growing companies had 70 workers, according to Fina’s data, released to mark the World No Tobacco Day on May 31.
Tobacco manufacturers posted a consolidated loss last year for the first time since 2008, which amounted to 79.9 million kuna (€10.8 million). This was largely due to TDR’s loss of 88 million kuna (€11.9 million).
Their total revenue was 1.37 billion kuna (€19 million), or 290 million down from 2016, and the average monthly net salary in the sector was 12,171 kuna (€1645).
