On the occasion of Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, celebrated on June 22, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Wednesday received a delegation of the Association of Antifascist Fighters and Antifascists of Croatia, the president’s office said in a press release.
The delegation said it expected bigger support from state institutions for the association’s work, and expressed its dissatisfaction with revisionist tendencies in Croatian society regarding the antifascist struggle.
One of the causes is the fact that young generations know too little about the historic character and significance of the antifascist struggle, the delegation said, adding that it expected the upcoming education reform to result in more content about that period of Croatian history in textbooks.
The president said it was necessary to minimise divisions over historical issues as much as possible in Croatian society. It is pointless to create artificial conflicts between those “for” the antifascist struggle and those “for” the 1991-95 war, as one is not opposed to the other, she said, hoping that the 1991-95 war too would be covered more in textbooks.
