Zadar's County Court on Friday set one month's detention for 25-year-old Briton Douglas Cane, suspected of the murder and attempted murder of other British nationals outside a night club at the Zrce beach on the northern Adriatic island of Pag.
Cane was put in detention so as not to flee or attempt to influence witnesses or tamper with evidence, court spokesman Hrvoje Viskovic said.
He was arrested at the Split airport on Thursday, attempting to flee the country. He had shaved his head in an attempt to disguise his identity, police had said earlier.
Before he was brought before a judge, Cane was questioned at the local prosecutor’s office, which launched an investigation and requested detention.
Early on Wednesday, a number of foreign nationals clashed outside a night club at Zrce, a beach popular among young people. One of them, a 26 year old British national, was murdered, while two other Britons were wounded, one sustaining light and one severe injuries. According to Croatian media speculations, the incident was drug-related.
