Spectacular gladiator fights in the Pula Arena

YouTube

Gladiator fights will take place in the Ancient Arena in the Istrian city of Pula on Monday and Tuesday evening as part of the Spectacvla Antiqua project which takes place every year from June to September celebrating Pula’s ancient Roman history and heritage.

Fighters from the Pula Spectacvla Gladiatoria Association will stage spectacular gladiator fights, with real weapons, in the Pula Arena, one of the best preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. Spectators will take a trip into the past accompanied by a narrator who will guide them through the spectacle.

Spectacvla Gladiatoria Association’s gladiator school Ludus Histrus is two-time winner of the Hercules Victor international gladiator tournament in Tivoli near Rome, making it one of the best gladiator schools in the world.

Apart from the fights, visitors will be able to see authentic Roman clothing and crafts, as well as visit authentic Roman feasts and workshops, all against the backdrop of ancient streets and architecture of Pula.

The Archaeological Museum of Istria, Tourism Office Pula and Public Institution Pula Sport were awarded in 2013 the Capra d’Oro (Golden Goat) by the Istria Tourist Board for this project.

More information, and dates of the gladiator fights, can be found on the project’s website.
