The largest Croatian tourist company Valamar Riviera announced plans to invest 616.5 million kuna (€83.2 million) in 2019, with one of their main projects being the Istra Sunny camp in Funtana in western Istria, which is expected to re-open next summer as the Istra Premium Camping Resort.

The works on upgrading the camp, which is currently rated two stars, should begin in the autumn of 2018. The re-opened camp is expected to offer a series of new facilities, including an aqua park, a cinema, glamping tents, and luxury mobile homes with private pools.

The company said they were among the first on the Mediterranean to invest in luxury camping, and added that after the re-development the camp at Funtana would be five-star rated, become one of the best camps in Europe, and would create about 200 jobs.
