The Serbian government’s Commission for Missing Persons said on Tuesday that exhumations had started in Croatia at grave sites where the remains of Serbs killed at the end of the war in that former Yugoslav republic.
A statement said that the exhumations were being conducted at the remaining registered grave sites in Karlovac county where Serbs killed in the Croatian military-police operation Storm were buried.
The exhumations are expected to take four days to complete and the remains will be sent to laboratories for DNA identification.
The statement said that Serbian commission members were present as observers at the exhumations under inter-state agreements between the two countries.
