President accuses Commissioner Mimica of detaching himself from Croatia

"How many people in Croatia know who the Croatian commissioner is in the European Commission," the president wondered.

Mimica, a former Social Democratic Party official, is the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development.

"The Croatian commissioner must be often in Croatia and must explain to the Croatian people and voters why he is in Brussels," she said in an attempt to explain her recent statement that during the European Union elections, voters in Croatia sent a message that they did not want politicians "who have detached themselves from their own people".

The criticism of detachment of elites from ordinary people was frequently mentioned by sovereignist options in the election campaign before the Euro elections.

Commenting on this remark by the interview anchorwoman, Grabar-Kitarovic said that "sovereignist policy does not at all clashes with the policies of the European Union or NATO. Furthermore, every country promotes its own interests and that is the goal of the European policies".

Speaking about the EU enlargement and the prospects of Western Balkan aspirants, the president said that she could understand the matter of the enlargement and that she also wanted to remove Croatia from the Balkans and managed in that.

There is no longer any mention of the so-called region with the capital letter 'R' in the thinking of people. Croatia has been shifted to the area of the Three Seas Initiative encompassing Central Europe, the Mediterranean and the EU, according to the president's explanation.
