Slovenian Prime Minister Marjan Sarec said on Wednesday that his country could be interested in the post of European Enlargement Commissioner in the new European Commission.
“One of the departments we are interested in is the enlargement department. We have said on several occasions that we are familiar with the Western Balkans and can contribute in that regard,” Sarec told reporters in Novo Mesto.
Speaking of the last EU summit at which agreement was reached on the distribution of key posts in European institutions, Sarec said that it was about reaching a compromise on potential candidates.
“At this moment, I think the solution that has been agreed on is optimal,” said Sarec.
He added that Slovenia could be satisfied with the distribution of top posts and that he expected of the new EC “more activity with regard to EU enlargement to the Western Balkans” as well as progress on some other issues.
